The single known authenticated photograph of Billy the Kid - the famous Upham tintype - willappear for sale for the first time ever at Brian Lebel's Old West Auction on June 25.
Billy the Kid, photographed in NewMexico 130 years ago
Billy the Kid had his "picture made" 130 years ago in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, posing for what is now considered the most recognisable photo of the American West.
This original tintype is theonlyauthenticated photo of the Kid in existence today. Descended through one family, it has never before been offered for public sale.
The piece will appear for sale at the Denver Merchandise Mart in Denver, Colorado, US, where this year's Old West Auction is being held. It's estimate? $300,000-400,000.
