Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriters are collectible typewriters, first produced in 1949 or 1950.

Olivetti

Olivetti was founded in Turin, Italy 1908 as a typewriter manufacturer.

It opened its first manufacturing facility overseas in 1930 and merged with typewriter manufacturer Underwood in 1963, after purchasing the company in 1959.

In recent years the company has become known for its computers and printers.

It is currently owned by Telecom Italia.

Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriters

The Olivetti Lettera 32 was a popular portable typewriter designed by Marcello Nizzoli in 1963, the man behind its predecessor, the Lettera 22.

Like its predecessor, it lacked a “1” key, instead requiring the typist to hit a lower case “L”.

How much are Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriters worth?

Good condition examples tend to change hands for around $40 at internet auction sites. Those with carry cases are worth slightly more than those without.

Some rare examples can achieve significantly more than this figure, however. A cursive script example realised $150 at an eBay auction in October 2011.
