Oldsmobile Hurst classic muscle car auctions at Mecum's Florida sale

This rare 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst classic car is among the highlights in Mecum's upcoming auction

Could 2012 be the year of the classic muscle car? Mecum's upcoming auction in Kissimmee, Florida, promises plenty of rare automobiles - including this rare 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst 442.

This classic car is a fully restored, matching numbers example. What's more, it is one of just 912 Hurst Olds ever produced and one of only three that were air conditioned.

Aside from its rarity, this car also boasts some classic stylings of its era. Its provenance even includes starring on the front cover of Classic Sixties magazine.

According to Mecum, the 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst 442 has notched up 200 miles since its restoration. Its overall mileage, as the name suggests, is 442 miles.

Hurst Performance, Inc of Warminster Township, Pennsylvania, was devoted to boosting the performances of automobiles - especially muscle cars.

This example has been personally validated by Robert Lichty, author of the extensive book Hurst Heritage. The Oldsmobile also listed in the Hurst Olds Registry.

And you can even listen to old '60s tunes on the car's in-built 8-track as you're driving along.

The Oldsmobile Hurst 442 will auction at lunchtime on the Saturday during Mecum's January 24-29 auction.

Given this car's inimitable 1960s provenance, it should definitely appeal to so-called "baby boomer" investors in Mecum's upcoming sale - the generation of buyers who were born at the right time to remember the impact of the Swinging Sixties.

Meanwhile, some of the most noted US car collectors have plenty of muscle in their collections. Including the noted collector, and friend of Paul Fraser Collectibles, Tammy Allen.

Tammy's collection famously features the 2009 Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang autographed by Lee Iacocca himself, the Chryslerimpresario.
