Oldenburg family car collection to be offered by Bonhams at Scottsdale

The Oldenburg family car collection will be sold in January, featuring 30 impressive models

Bonhams has announced that it will be selling the Oldenburg family car collection at its second annual Scottsdale Auction in Arizona.

1972 Lamborghini Muira SVThe Muira gave birth to the supercar trend and is still regarded as one of the finest

On January 17, 2013, the auction house is to offer more than 30 cars from the prominent horse breeding family's collection, which includes a prime line-up of Ferraris and Jaguars.

Leading the lots will be what Bonhams has described as the "most sought-after Lamborghini ever produced" - the 1973 Lamborghini Miura SV. Widely attributed with kick-starting the supercar trend, the Lamborghini Muira was the fastest road car available at the time of its launch.

The SV is the final and most famous Muira to be produced by Lamborghini, distinguished from its predecessors by the lack of "eyelashes" around the headlamps and differentrear lights. The example at auction is a "stunning archetype", according to Bonhams, painted in red with gold accents.

The collection of five Ferraris offered in the sale will be highlightedby both the 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS Spyder and the 1967 Ferrari 365 GTC prototype, which are both of the utmost rarity. The 1968 330 GTS Spyder is one of just 99 built by Maranello, while the 1967 Ferrari 365 GTC prototype was a unique example produced for Leopoldo Pirelli, president of Pirelli.

The president ordered thevehicle new from Ferrari. It featured a 330 GTC body with an enlarged 365 motor, as well ashandmade five spoke magnesium wheels, making this a truly unique opportunity to own a bespoke model from the world's best-loved marque.

From the British section of the sale will be the rarest of all MG models, the 1936 NB Magnette Airline Coupe, as well as the legendary Jaguar E-Type Coupe. Also featuring in the Scottsdale auction will be Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing Coupe, which is being offered by Barrett-Jackson.
