Nicholas Rhodes' Tibetan coins to sell through Spink

Tibetan coins from the esteemed Nicholas Rhodes Collection include a $13,000 1-sho piece

A 1-sho coin from the reign of Chinese emperor Jiaqing will see the highest bids in Spink's auction of Tibetan Coins from the Nicholas Rhodes Collection on August 21 in Hong Kong.

The coin is valued at $9,500-13,000, as the expected top lot of the sale.

The bilingual coin dates to 1798, the second full year of the Jiaqing emperor's reign(1796-1820). An extremely rare find, it has been graded XF 45 and is to be sold in a PCGS holder.

Nicholas Rhodes (1946-2011) was a British numismatist who specialised in Asian coinage, and was also a founding member of the Oriental Numismatic Society. His collection, which will be sold in parts by Spink, contains some of the rarest coins from Tibet, Assam and Nepal.
