The $45,000-valued stamp is a classic rarity - the first ever issued in the region, and is offered unused with strong colour and a well-centred impression on clean paper.

It features equal and well-balanced margins marred only by a horizontal crease, although this has been smoothed out.

An 1865 five cent rose imperforate is another important lot, valued at $40,000.

The stamp was issued on Vancouver Island, but was also valid in the neighbouring region of British Columbia.

It features bold colour and large margins, capped with a detailed and well-renderedimpression, and is described by Spink as being "among the finest mint examples available."

The sale will also feature an 1851 12d Canada Black, valued at $140,000 - one of just 18 extant examples.

We have the finest known example of the 1851 12d Canada Black for sale. It is in mint, unhinged condition with the original gum.

Known as The Black Empress, it was graded Superb 98 by the Philatelic Foundation of New York in 2010.
