'Music to the Mouth' Bordeaux wine collection for sale at Acker Chicago

The vast fine wine sale in the Windy city is to be concluded with a collection from a music expert

We left you hanging in our last article as to the remaining Bordeaux collections in Acker, Merrall and Condit's Chicago auction following the 'Mint' hoard.

The sale continues with 'Music to the Mouth, Bordeaux Style' (lots 328-403). This collection has come to Acker courtesy of a prolific pianist and Bordeaux collector, with numerous original wooden cases in outstanding condition to show for it.

Sonatas, suites and fugues sing without words about 1945 Gruaud Larose (lot 331 - $2,000-3,000), 1989 Lafite (lot 346 - $10,000-14,000), 1989 Haut Brion (lot 341 - $15,000-20,000) and 1983 Margaux (lot 361 - $7,000-9,000).

There are multi-case parcel marches of 1985 Haut Brion (lots 334-336 - $4,500-6,000), 1990 Lafite (lots 347-349 - $12,000-16,000), 1990 Leoville Las Cases (lots 356-360 - $3,500-5,000) and 1988 Mouton (lots 365-369 - $4,000-6,000).

A seven case parcel of 1990 Dom Perignon (lots 393-399 - $2,400-3,500) is a fitting finale to the celebration. Again, most wines were acquired on initial release, making this another Bordeaux bonanza.

Acker's last featured Bordeaux collection is a Midwestern special, a veritable 'Bordeaux Block Tango' (lots 460-527). It springs into action with a volley of impressive First Growth verticals, including Lafite back to 1947 (lot 463 - $10,000-14,000) and Margaux from 1959 on (lot 466 - $5,500-7,500).

Then it waltzes through a Right Bank rhapsody of cases of 1982 Cheval Blanc in bottles and magnums (lots 470-471 - $12,000-16,000 each), 1989 Clinet (lot 474 - $6,500-8,500) and 1990 Conseillante (lot 483 - $4,000-6,000).

There is a parcel of 1982 Leoville las Cases (lots 506-507 - $5,000-7,000) and 2005 La Mission in magnum and imperial (lots 490-491 - $5,500-7,500 and $4,000-6,000 respectively), six-packs of 1982 Lafite (lot 494 - $20,000-30,000), Latour (lot 499 - $10,000-15,000) and Mouton (lot 520 - $7,000-9,000).

Finally, there are ancient beauties such as 1959 Ausone (lot 468 - $4,000-6,000) and 1961 La Mission bottles and magnums (lots 486 - $10,000-14,000 and 487 - $6,000-8,000), adding to the 'wow' factor.
