Multiplex Red Barrel dispensers are vintage collectible oak barrels produced in the 1950s and 1960s by the US-based Multiplex Faucet company. “Vintage” refers to pieces manufactured within the last 100 years and can include items made as recently as the 1980s.

Background

Designed to dispense carbonated drinks, Multiplex Red Barrel dispensers usually featured advertising for the leading soft drink producers, including Pepsi and Coca-Cola.

It was Coca-Cola's first multi-drink dispenser, commonly featuring two or three nozzles.

They were often employed at large-scale events or attractions, such as drive-in movies, where there was a need to keep large quantities of liquid cool.

They were available in both 17 gallon and 45 gallon sizes.

How much are Multiplex Red Barrel Dispensers worth?

Multiplex Red Barrel Dispensers are highly collectible but rarely seen at auction.

A three-faucet Coca Cola version sold for $700 at a Richard Opfer Auctioneering sale in September 2011.
