Muhammad Ali collectibles box for charity at Bonhams' auction

Signed gloves and other ephemera from the three-time World Heavyweight Champion are up for sale

A collection of Muhammad Ali memorabilia, hand-signed and donated by the celebrated former boxer to Parkinson's UK, a Parkinson's disease charity, is to be sold at Bonhams, Chester.

The pieces will go under the hammer as part of the Sporting Memorabilia sale on 20 October 2010.

The three-time World Heavyweight Champion was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a degenerative disorder of the nervous system, in 1984, aged 42.

He has donated 22 lots to Parkinson's UK to aid the research and support provided by the charity.

'Service to others is the rent that we pay on earth for our room in heaven'

One of the highlights is a boxing glove (estimated at 600-800) on which he has written: "Service to others is the rent that we pay on earth for our room in heaven."

Given the fighting form of other Ali memorabilia at auction, the gloves will more than likely punch high above their estimate.

Meanwhile, other important items in the sale include a sketch by Ali (estimated at 300-400); a black and white signed photograph of Ali (150-200).

Also auctioning is a collection of six pictures and associated letters (400-600); and a signed reproduction magazine cover of 'Life' from March 6, 1964 (200-250).
