Mucha's Times of the Day expected to make $75,000

Alphonse Mucha's Times of the Day to headline Swann Auction Galleries sale

A group of four decorative panels by Alphonse Mucha on the theme of times of the day is estimated to make $50,000-75,000 on February 25.

The sale will take place at Swann Auction Galleries in New York.

Mucha Times Day Swann The quartet depicts four women personifying the times of the day

The quartet (titled Morning Awakening, Daytime Dash, Evening Reverie and Nightly Rest) feature the floral decorations typical of Mucha's style, including a border that extends around the edges of each print.

Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech artist best known for his development of art-nouveau, which was heavily influenced by the natural world.

The Four Seasons, another set of decorative panels by Mucha, is valued at $20,000-30,000.

In June 2013 a set of Four Seasons lithographs made $62,500 at Bonhams New York.

Also featured in the sale is an original copy of Document Decoratifs, a book published in Paris in 1902, which displays Mucha's technical ability.

It offers tuition in drawing women and flowers, and includes a variety of designs for a range of products, from jewellery to furniture.

The record for a work by Mucha is set at $195,952 for a study for the Slavic Epic (1910-1928), a cycle of 20 paintings which sold at Dorotheum in Prague last year.

We have a range of art and photography memorabilia for sale, including this postcard signed by Pablo Picasso - a contemporary of Mucha.
