'Most beautiful anatomy drawings' auction in Paris

An early user of the microscope, Herman Lebert's seminal works are going under the hammer

An original edition of Hermann Lebert's (1813-78) Treaty of General Pathology will be among the highlights at Kapandji Morhange's (part of Drouot) Medicine and Books auction on March 9.

Dated to Paris between 1857 and 1861,the folio is presented in four volumes, including two atlases, presented in a golden box.

According to the auctioneer, the atlases contain 200 finely drawn and engraved plates described as "among the most beautiful plates of anatomy" of the era.

One of the anatomical sketches in Lebert's works, considered among the best of the mid-18th century

"The superb hand-coloured copperplate engravings of macro-and micropathology in this work are among the finest ever published," says Garrison and Morton's A Medical Bibliography.

Lebert was among the first to use the microscope in pathology, thus contributing decisively to today's pathology and clinical medicine practices.

This remarkably fresh and historical copy will auction with an estimate of 3,500, at Hotel Drouot in Paris.
