Following their first photo shoot together, Monroe famously sent Greene a bouquet of red roses and telephoned to tell him that his pictures were the most beautiful she had ever seen.

Two years later, in 1955, Monroe spent a year living with Greene at the Greene family farmhouse in Connecticut.

Greene left a legacy of still images from this period together.Intimate, comic, sultry and sombre, the photographs shine a little light on one of the most collected women in the world.

The previously unpublished snap shots feature Monroe in a range of costumes and attitudes. Additionally, there are shots from Monroe's public life, which included a brief liaison with Marlon Brando as well as roles in The Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl.

Greene believed that gaining the intimacy and trust of your subject was the key to taking a great picture; duly, the bond between Monroe and Greene is evident in the photographs offered.

The sale represents a rare opportunity for collectors to purchase original works by one of America's most celebrated photographers, featuring one of its most famous film stars.

Estimates range from $1,000-$12,000.

In November 2012, a number of Marilyn Monroe photographs from the Milton Greene archive sold for $750,000 in Poland - the country's highest-selling photography auction of all time, while a letter written by the star just before her suicide in 1962 sold for $156,000 in May 2013.
