Michael Jackson's amazing memorabilia

The late star's memorabilia continues to rock and roll

Until recently, Madonna had one of the biggest contracts ever signed by Sony, at $120m. But this and similar sized contracts are now dwarfed by a recording contract for the late star Michael Jackson, who's estate has signed a contract worth $200m.

The contract covers a video game, a new album of previously unreleased material and a re-release of the classic album Off The Wall and even a Cirque du Soleil show based on his hit songs amongst other projects.

What is particularly extraordinary is that it does not cover the merchandise royalties associated with any of the new releases.

Since Jackson's death in June, 31 million of his albums have been sold, generating revenue of $252m, whilst This Is It has taken over $240m at the box office.

It seems that Jackson's legacy is in a robust state, and sales of his memorabilia are likely to continue in the same vein as that we've seen in recent months with some of the most notable sales including:

The certificate for his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley bringing $70,800, a left-handed glove worn when he unveiled the moonwalk which brought 212,000 ($324,000) and the handwritten lyrics to Beat It for $60,000.

An Andy Warhol painting of the singer also sold for $1m.

Those interested in music memorabilia may wish to take a look at collectibles linked to Elvis, Bob Dylan and The Beatles which are currently available.
