A rare Meissen porcelain thimble has topped Leslie Hindman Auctioneers' sale of the Ann Blakeslee Black Collection of Thimbles, Needlework, Tools & Vertu sale, held on May 21 in Florida.

The Meissen objects in the auction proved extremely popular with collectors in this niche area, with this example selling at $20,000 - a 233.3% increase on its$6,000 high estimate.

It boasts Chinoiserie figures in a landscape with a bridge, painted by JG Herold circa 1730. Meissen's thimbles generally weren't produced for practical use due to their high cost and fragile nature, but are collected for their beautiful and tiny artworks.
