The Mego Joe Namath action figure is a vintage toy based on the celebrated New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath.
Joe Namath (1943 -) is a renowned American football quarterback who spent the majority of his career with the New York Jets, from 1964 until 1977. He was known by the nickname ‘Broadway Joe’ due to his celebrity lifestyle and fashion sense, often wearing a full-length fur coat on the sidelines during games.
The figure, released in 1971, was one of a small handful of Mego figures based on sporting heroes, ther other two being Muhammad Ali and Franz Beckenbauer.

The figure measured 12” tall, fully poseable, and came dressed in his official New York Jets kit. The figure also had a throwing arm mechanism, which allowed it to throw a football when the arm was pulled back and released.
Alongside the figure, Mego released a set of 12 different outfits in the same manner as a fashion doll due to Namath’s well-documented love of clothes. Each was sold separately, as part of the ‘Mod About Town’ wardrobe, and had names relating to football. They were:
