McDonald's Big Mac sauce auction on eBay
Bidding on a tube of McDonald's Big Mac sauce with dispenser is at £65,300 ($93,974) on eBay, with the sale due to close on February 10.
McDonalds is offering the lot in an auction to raise funds for Ronald McDonald's House Charities.
The auction represents the first time that Big Mac sauce has ever been sold at auction in the UK.
It was, however, offered in a charity auction in Australia in 2014 – where a bottle sold for $18,000.
Since then around 4,000 bottles have been released, with some trading for around $100 on eBay.
The recipe, which contains white wine vinegar, mustard and paprika, is one of the company’s biggest trade secrets. It’s essentially a tweaked version of Thousand Island Dressing.
The Big Mac first appeared on the McDonald's menu in 1967, in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was an instant hit.
It was created by Jim Delligatti, the franchisee behind another of the company’s most popular products – the Egg McMuffin, and was designed to compete with the double burger offered at rival chain Bob’s Big Boy.
Some of its original proposed names included the Aristocrat and the Blue Ribbon Burger – although these were quite rightly rejected out of hand.
