Mahogany half tester bed brings $30,000 to Green Gables auction

A youth-size mahogany half tester bed led among furniture from a Tennessee mansion

Acirca 1860 stately mahogany half tester bed has highlighted Stevens Auctions' sale of the contents of Green Gables, a mansion in Jackson, Tennessee.

Mahogany half tester bed C. LeeGreen Gables is one of Jackson's most historic Victorian mansions, often referenced by historians

Made by C Lee, the finely carved, youth-sized bed sold for an impressive $29,900 on June 29. Even Green Gables itself, described as "one of Jackson's stateliest and most historic Victorian mansions", sold in the auction for $250,000.

Also selling in the sale was a fine RJ Horner carved oak nine-tube grandfather clock from circa 1890, which brought $21,850.
