Low-mileage Triumph Herald sees $22,000 in UK sale

A Triumph Herald 1200 with incredibly low-mileage sold within estimate

A low-mileage Triumph Herald 1200 that remains in as-new condition has sold with strong results at East Anglia Motor Auctions' September 28 sale in the UK.

The mint condition motor, which has seen just 20 miles in the 52 years since it was produced, made 13,500 ($21,783) against a 12,000-15,000 estimate.

The car was brought from new in 1961, and still sports its original 15 tax disc. It was delivered to its careful owner on the back of a trailer and was seldom used before she died,at which pointthe family sold it back to the original dealer.

"When he [the dealer] went to see it, he discovered it had not been driven from the day it had been delivered brand new - and decided to keep it as part of his private collection," auctioneer Tristram Belemore-Smith told the BBC.

Low-mileage cars are prized by collectors for their original parts, as many other examples on the market will have been restored and their parts replaced with newer examples.
