Louis Bleriot is the first again as Dominic Winter warms up for an aviation sale
The first man to fly across the English Channel could rise once more at the UK auctioneer
Gloucester auctioneers Dominic Winter, who specialise in books but have branched out into various areas of collecting such as art and militaria in recent times are looking ahead toward an aviation-themed sale in two months' time.
The Collectors Sale: Aviation & Transport, is still very much open to consignments, but a couple of interesting lots are already known, and will be sufficient to whet the appetite of any collector of man's struggle with the sky.
Firstly, there is a signed postcard relating to Louis Bleriot. Bleriot of course was the man who completed the first flight across a large body of water in a heavier-than-air craft, when he crossed the English Channel. This should make an excellent investment.

A very different lot is an Archive File for an Aviation Patent, c. 1927-33, entitled "Rotating Device for Increasing the Carrying Capacity of Aeroplane Wings", including a typed lettersigned by R.J. Mitchell.
The estimate of 1,000-1,500 may be a little modest for this item, but regardless it is unlikely to be the top lot. Last time around Dominic Winter sold an extraordinary collection, the Brackley Archive, for 12,000 ($19,400). The auction is scheduled for May 18th.
