Lou Gehrig baseball bat now at $90,000 with Goldin Auctions

A baseball bat used by Lou Gehrig in the 1936-1937 seasons is selling well

A Lou Gehrig game used bat is currently selling at the top of Goldin Auctions' October Legends auction, which closes on November 1.

The bat was used during Gehrig's 1936 and 1937 seasons for the New York Yankees, in which he was at the height of his powers, with Time Magazine then calling him the game's no.1 batsman. It is currently selling for $90,750.

The 1936 season saw Gehrig achieve 49 home runs and a .354 average to lead the Yankees to their first World Championship in four years, and earning him the MVP award. The 1937 season saw a repeat of the Yankees' success, with the team raising yet another World Championship flag.

There are approximately 20 known Lou Gehrig used bats in private hands, with this example a particularly coveted Hillerich & Bradsby small signature variety. It shows signs of heavy use, with a stamp enabling it to be identified as one of seven Gehrig ordered between 1936 and 1938.

It has been given a PSA grading of GU 9, and will be sold with a letter of authenticity.

Also starring is the all-time finest PSA graded complete set of 1939 Play Ball cards, which is selling at $60,500. The 161 cards have an overall GPA of 8.71, and have been compiled over many years by an advanced collector.
