Lot 599: Author: Olney, J.; Title: Olney's School Atlas (cover title); Place Published: New York; Publisher: Robinson, Pratt & Co.; Date Published: 1841; Description: With 12 hand-colored copper-engraved maps (5 are double-page), and one hand-colored chart plate with 4 engraved vignette scenes. 29.4x24 cm (11½x9½"), original pictorially engraved and printed wrappers.With a double-hemisphere map of the World, plus North America, the United States, regional maps of the U.S., etc. The maps of North America and of the United States are notable for the designation of Texas as an independent country, with the map of the U.S. bearing the legend "Texas was declared independent of Mexico in 1836." Condition: Some soiling and a few stains to wrappers, contents dog-eared, moderate offset and soiling within, ink ownership notations of a Miss Clarisa Wallens, dated 1844, to front leaf; very good.
