Printed on two sheets joined together, each with separate title cartouche. 59x87 cm (23 ¼x34 ¼").Scarce map covering the Indian Ocean and adjacent coastlines from the Horn of Africa to Sumatra. This is the first issue, with Pierre Mortier as sole publisher (he was later joined by Covens). It includes all of India with excellent detail, particularly along the coasts, plus southern Persia, a large portion of the Arabian peninsula, etc.. Each sheet is centered on its own compass rose. A major focus of the map are the islands in the Indian Ocean including Zocotora (Socotra), the Amirante Islands (Seychelles), the Maldives, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and the Andaman Islands. The maps were also issued separately, and are much less common in this joined state, which appeared in both the Atlas Nouveau and the Suite du Neptune Francois. Provenance: P.J. Radford, 1972. Condition: Some creasing and wear along centerfold, top edge rough but not affecting image or neat line; faint dust soiling; very good.
