Lot 554: Author: Buchon, Jean Alexandre; Title: Etats-Unis d'Amerique; Place Published: Paris; Publisher: N/A; Date Published: 1825; Description: Copper-engraved map, hand-colored. 42x53 cm. (16½x21"), archivally matted & shrink-wrapped.The United States derived from John Melish, published in Buchon's Atlas geographique, statistique, historique et chronologique des deux Ameriques... Extends beyond the Rocky Mountains. The large Arkansas Territory takes in most of present-day Oklahoma; the new state of Missouri has a vertical western border; Michigan Territory includes most of present-day eastern Wisconsin; and the Northwest Territory takes in present day Wisconsin and Minnesota. The balance of the Midwest is included in the Territoire d'Oregon and is filled with information on numerous Indian tribes. The Grand Desert Americain takes in the southern plains region. Texas is a part of Mexico. Condition: Appears fine, though not examined out of the matting.
