Lot 523: Author: Anonymous; Title: America Septentrional; Place Published: Paris; Publisher: Imp. Lith. de V. Janson; Date Published: c.1845; Description: Lithographed map, hand-colored in outline. 37x27.3 cm (14½x10¾").North and Central America at an interesting time in history, the pause before the Mexican-American War, the California gold rush, and the massive emigration west. Texas is shown by coloring to be an independent country. The lands of various Indian Tribes are designated, including Sioux, Mandan, Apache, Snake (Serpentes). The so-called Great Desert is named "G. Deserto." The Rocky Mountains are clearly defined, but there is no trace of the Sierra Nevada. Provenance: P.J. Radford, 1972. Condition: Very good condition.
