The Mini was discovered by a former factory worker in secret tunnels beneath the factory, which were designed to protect workers from bombs in the second world war.

TheMini was dumped in the tunnels in the late 1970s after suffering damage during manufacture. It is believed that a storage container falling on it caused the massive damage to its bodywork.

The worker received permission to remove the car in 2012, just before the tunnels were due to be filled.

In April 2012, the oldest existing Austin Mini sold for $40,250 at Bonhams.
