Kurt Cobain Melvins van auctions on August 26

A van driven by 'roadie' Kurt Cobain and featuring his artwork is auctioning on eBay this weekend

A van driven by Kurt Cobain and featuring his artwork from his time as a roadie is currently auctioning on eBay.

The Nirvana star is thought to have provided the Kiss mural doodles on the 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal Vanduring his time withtheMelvins in the 1980s.

While not much to look at, the van's unique place in the history of grunge music is expected to draw considerable interest from music memorabilia buyers.

It is the second time the van has come up for auction this year, after it attracted bids of $99,999 in March but failed to meet its reserve.

Now returning with enhanced provenance, hopes are high that it will perform even better this time around.

Consigner Ben Berg, a former member of metal band Weird Beast, told Rolling Stone magazine: "I finally acquired written statements from Matt Lukin [former Melvins member]and Steve Shillinger [friend of Cobain and the Melvins] authenticating the artwork.

"That was sort of a big issue the first go-round with serious collectors," he added.

Cobain's memorabilia historically sells well, due in large part to his tragic early death.

His 1960s Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar, one of just two known to exist, sold for $131,000 in 2006, while a letter he wrote to MTV, which fully displays his hostile relationship with the music industry, achieved $12,800 in 2010.

We have a supremely unusual piece of memorabilia from Libertines frontman Pete Doherty currently up for grabs.

The auction ends on August 26. We will bring you full details of the result next week.
