Kevin Pietersen auctions signed Ashes memorabilia for flood-hit Australians

The England batsman is offering a cricket bat and shirt from the recent record-breaking series

Whilst he's enjoyed being the bogeyman for the Australian crowds, often booed onto the field during the Ashes, England batsman Kevin Pietersen has been appalled by the recent floods in Queensland and has decided to use his cricket memorabilia to help.

To this end, he is looking to sell one of his Ashes winning shirts and also a cricket bat "...personalised to the highest bidder" in a snap auction to raise quick funds.

Pietersen is also throwing in two tickets to see England's One Day International match at Perth, including flights and accommodation.

It's difficult to predict what Pietersen will be offered for his wares. He's usually regarded as England's most exciting and naturally gifted batsman - although he wasn't the star of England's huge recent win against the Australianswhen they notched up three innings victories in five matches. That honour belonged to opener Alaistair Cook, whose batting broke several long-standing records.

Still, signed memorabilia relating to great and record-breaking matches can be very valuable, as has been seen both recently - as with Sachin Tendulkar's bat. What's more, these items could be valuable investmentsin future years.

Fans should watch KP's Twitter account for more news of the auction. For more items of interest, here's our Top Five list of the greatest pieces of cricket memorabilia.
