Keith Harings Totem sculpture could achieve $117,500

Keith Harings Totem sculpture was executed two years before his death

Totem, a sculpture by Keith Haring,is expected to make 50,000-70,000 ($84,060-117,684) when it comes to auction at Phillips London on June 12.

The 1988 piece is one of an edition of 35 and features a signed plaque on the reverse. Another example from the same edition sold for $74,500 at Christie's New York in 2012.

Haring (1958-1990)rose to international stardom in the 1980s with his signature graffiti-inspired works that addressed the socio-political issues of the day, from gay rights to the AIDS and crack epidemics that ravaged his adopted New York.

His record remains $2.5m for a mixed media work that sold at Christie's in 2007. He is consistently undervalued when compared to contemporaries like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, whose works regularly achieve sums in the eight figure range.

In April last year, Ringed Figure (1987) sold for $166,689 at Sotheby's Paris.

Pablo Picasso's Blind Minotaur Guided Through a Starry Night by Marie-Therese with a Pigeon, a screen print executed in 1934, carries an identical estimate of 50,000-70,000 ($84,060-117,684).

The surreal work is one of an edition of 250 taken from the Vollard Suite - the series of neoclassical etchings Picasso made for dealer Ambroise Vollard.
