Johnny Cash's Rolls-Royce to cross the block in Vegas

Johnny Cash was presented with the Rolls-Royce following the success of his talk show

A black Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow formerly belonging to Johnny Cash is up for auction at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas on September 25-27.

The auction housecomments: "Between June 1969 and March 1971, 'The Man in Black' hosted his own TV music variety show on ABC. Appropriately called 'The Johnny Cash Show' the series was quite successful.

"58 episodes aired with Nielsen ratings climbing as high as number 17. Hollywood and music greats from Bob Hope to Carl Perkins to Bob Dylan appeared.

"Ordered and purchased by ABC Television Network, the 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow LWB (long wheelbase) 'long door' Saloon shown here was given to Johnny Cash as a gift."

It features subtle touches indicating its provenance, including the initials "JRC" on the doors in gold.

Cash (1932-2003) was a breakout star of the country music scene who rose from obscurity to become one of the popular singers of the 20th century.

His hell-raising offstage antics are legendary - he once punched an ostrich, and drove a tractor into a lake following a lengthy amphetamine binge.

In October a selection of memorabilia from Waylon Jennings, another outlaw country singer, will auction in Phoenix, Arizona.
