Joey Ramone's leather jacket was one of several standout pieces of music memorabilia for sale

Joey Ramone's leather jacket has provided one of the top lots at a major online music memorabilia auction, which ended yesterday (February 21).

The zebra skin trim jacket, which auctioned for $15,154, was one of several pieces from the Ramones lead singer's estate that sold well, showing the collecting public's appetite for the band is strong.

Joey's collection of 140 T shirts, many bearing the logos of famous bands, sold for $17,937, his passport achieved $10,379, while a pair of spectacles made $6,409.

The auction house's Bobby Livingston told the New York Post prior to the sale: "It's been over 10 years since Joey passed away.

"So it is time for them (Ramone's family) to sell some of this stuff and get it in the hands of collectors and people who love Joey."

Two signed Beatles 45s each sold for $22,413 to provide the highest bids of the auction.

The Love Me Do/P.S. I Love You and Please Please Me/Ask Me Why rare original Parlophone pressings - the first singles produced by the band - had both been signed by John, Paul, George and Ringo.

There was also a strong performance from an unusual signed copy of the Beatles' Please Please Me album, featuring the signatures of John, Paul, George and Jimmie Nicol, the drummer who replaced a sickness-stricken Ringo at the beginning of the band's world tour in June 1964.

It sold for $16,838, a testament to its unique nature.

Just 125 Beatles albums signed by all four regular members are thought to exist - we have one of them.
