Jenson Button's Ferrari Enzo may see $1.5m in UK auction

Jenson Button's is one of just 400 Ferrari Enzos ever built, and has only 800 miles on the clock

A UK classic car auction entitled The Spirit of Motoring, which will be held at the Ascot Racecourse, is to feature Jenson Button's Ferrari Enzo on October 13.

The supercar holds the highest estimate of the sale at 850,000-950,000 ($1.37m-1.54m), boosted by its famous former owner. The estimated price is more than double the 418,000 ($677,731)it would have cost from new.

Jenson Button Ferrari Enzo Button bought the car during his brilliant 2009 season

The Ferrari Enzo was created to commemorate the Ferrari team's first Formula One win of the new millennium. Named after Ferrari's legendary founder, the car was released in 2002, built using Formula One technology.

Just 399 Enzos were made during Ferrari's limited production run, with a 400th model donated to the Vatican to be sold for charity. The car was sold by invitation only. Thesewere sent out by Ferrari to those that had previously bought the F40 or F50.

According to the consignor of the car, Jenson Button bought the vehicle in 2009, which is the same year that he won six of the first seven races of the 2009 season, securing the World Driver's Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix. According to the Mirror newspaper, he sold the car in 2011, but was not allowed to publicise the sale due to the fierce rivalry between Ferrari and his McLaren team.

The car has just 1300km (808 miles) on the clock and will be sold complete with all documentation, including the full Ferrari service history. The auction house believes it to be the best Enzo on the current market, describing it as in "concours condition".

As ever, Ferrari classic cars have been enjoying excellent results recently, with the HAGI Top 50 index showing a 26.39% increase in value since January 2012 and a 14.91% rise in August alone. For more of the latest news and investment advice on classic cars, sign up to our free weekly newsletter.
