James II (1633-1701) manuscript document signed by The KIng (PF32)

A superb manuscript document dated 1684/85 signed by the King of England, James II

This military commission appoints David Eyton to be an ensign 'of that Company in our Our First Regiment of Our Foot Guards commanded by... Henry Duke of Grafton'

The document is countersigned by Robert Spencer, 2nd Earl of Sunderland (and Secretary of State for the Northern department) and William Blathwayt (English Civil Servant).

King James II has signed James R.

The piece has scattered light staining as is expected with an item of this age.

However it is the date of the correspondence which is most important.

The document is dated 9th February 1684/85 making this one of the earliest known King James II signatures, just three days into his reign as King of England.

A stunning item of historic importance.
