James Bond Dr No poster auctions for $8,595

A David Chasman-designed James Bond Dr No poster has auctioned at Bonhams this afternoon

A Mitchell Hooks and David Chasman-designed James Bond poster advertising the 1962 smash, Dr No, sold for 5,625 ($8,595) at Bonhams this afternoon (July 3).

Dr No poster auctionThe iconic art work for the first Bond film poster was created by Mitchell Hooks and David Chasman

Dr No - the very first James Bond film - starred Sean Connery as Bond, a stylised version of whom can be clearly seen on the poster's left hand side, holding a smoking gun.

A 1963 From Russia With Love poster also put in a strong performance, making 4,000 ($6,111), while an annotated script from 1967's You Only Live Twice also sold for 4,000.

A suit made for Japanese actor Tetsuro Tamba, who is best known for playing Bond's ally Tiger Tanaka in You Only Live Twice, which was subsequently gifted to Tamba's voice coach Mark Polland, brought a healthy 4,375 ($6,680).

James Bond remains a multi-tiered collecting phenomenon; while serious investors compete for the finest items, which generally exist in single figures, enthusiasts enjoy owning reasonably-priced ephemera relating to the franchise, which is less likely to soar in value but brings great pleasure nonetheless.

In May 2013, a collection of rare 007 movie posters realised 14,145 ($21,371) at Christie's, while Bond's Thunderball watch (bought for just 25 at a UK car boot sale) made 103,875 ($160,383) in June - a 73% increase on its 60,000 high valuation.

Here at Paul Fraser Collectibles, we currently have this Sean Connery autograph in stock - yours for just200 ($305).
