Jaguar E-Type revs to 51,150 in classic cars auction

Described by Enzo Ferrari as 'the most beautiful car ever', this 1962 E-Type starred at Barons

A 1962 Series 1 E-Type roadster took the lead at Barons' sale at Sandown Park on June 15.

Finished in steel blue with a black leather interior, the car auctioned "in good to excellent condition" and realised a final price of 51,150.

Having spent most of its recent years in a heated garage, the reason for the sale was lack of use according to the seller.

The E-Type was registered in March 1962, and has since been treated to an intricate engine and gearbox rebuild by expert Tony Shaw of Andover, UK.

Works on the car included a chassis-up check-over, a full engine balance, the fitting of mildly modified cams and a gas flow.

In second place was a fine 2002 Dax 427 (AC Cobra replica), which achieved 33,650, followed by another Series 1 E-type - this time a 1964 fixed head coup (20,130).

The 1964 Jaguar roadster was secured after a bidding battle in the hall, while the Dax was sold to a commission bid, submitted on the Monday after the buyerviewed the car.

According to Barons, it was quite a busy sale, with cars spanning nine decades on offer, and there was some enthusiastic bidding for cars of all ages.
