Jackson chimp Bubbles' paintings make $3,000 towards care costs

Paintings by Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles, have sold after he was abandoned by the Jacksons

Two paintings by Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles, have sold at auction to raise money for his care costs.

The paintings raised 2,000 ($3,012) towards the primate's upkeep in his new homeat the Centre for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida, where he has lived since Jackson's death in 2009.

The Jackson family have ceased paying for Bubbles since Michael died, causing the centre's Patti Ragan concern for his future:

"To take all our apes to the ends of their lives will cost 25m. We need help," she told the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Ragan has now appealed to Jackson's fans to donate 100 a year each to help look after Bubbles. One donor, Scott Ponoroff, commented: "It's a disgrace. If Michael's own brothers and sisters aren't giving money then I guess it's up to the fans."
