'I've never known this kind of love before' - Liz Taylor love letters make $47,000

The film star's letters to her first love fared well at RR Auction's sale

Love letters written by a 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor have sold for $47,000 at an RR Auction online sale.

The collection of more than 60 letters written by Taylor to William Pawley, her first of many fiancs, were valued at $25,000 prior to the movie star's death in March.

"I've never known this kind of love before, it's so perfect and complete - and mature," Taylor wrote in May 1949.

"I've never loved anyone in my life before one third as much as I love you - and I never will (well, as far as that goes - I'll never love anyone else - period)," she added.

Bobby Livingston, RR Auction's vice president of sales and marketing, told USA Today: "The world recognised and embraced Taylor and her legacy through this beautiful, untold story."

The couple broke off their engagement after just a year. Taylor went on to marry Conrad Hilton in 1950, her first of seven husbands.

A letter written by her former husband Richard Burton, three days before he died in 1984, is believed to have been buried with Taylor in Glendale, California in March.

Taylor, whose hair is available to investors on the private market, is thought to have kept the letter by her bedside for the last 27 years of her life.
