This American flag was draped on the coffin of Francis Kelly (1860- 1938), who was awarded the US Medal of Honour for his part in an attempt on the Spanish Fleet in Santiago in 1898, only six weeks after enlisting in the US Navy. Kelly eventually rose to the rank of Chief Machinist's Mate and died at the age of 78 in 1938. The flag was draped over his coffin at his funeral, held in Glasgow. Now at auction, the flag is valued at £2-3,000 by The Great Western Auctions LTD. The auction takes place on the 20th of September.
