An edition of The Importance of Being Earnest given by the playwright Oscar Wilde to the kindly prison governor Major James Nelson could fetch up to £60,000 at Bonhams Auctions in June. Major Nelson was the first officer during Wilde's imprisonment to allow him access to books and writing materials-an act of kindness Wilde would never forget. Wilde has inscribed the edition: "To Major Nelson: from the author. A trivial recognition of a great and noble kindness. Feb, 99."
