Ideal Chipettes Dolls
Ideal Chipettes Dolls are dolls based on characters from the animated television series ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’, produced by the Ideal Toy Company.
Alvin and the Chipmunks was a cartoon that ran from 1983 until 1990, featuring the characters first created by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. in 1958. The three main characters of Alvin, Simon and Theodore are chipmunks who perform in a band, and first found success with Bagdasarian’s hit novelty record ‘The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)’ in which he performed a number of voices which were then sped up to sound like chipmunks.
The characters have since appeared in a number of animated series’ for television, along with comic books and three feature films.
The Chipettes are a trio of female chipmunk backing singers who perform with the band. They first appeared in 1983 in the series ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’, which was later renamed as ‘The Chipmunks’ to reflect the fact that the Chipettes had become major characters along with Alvin, Simon and Theodore.
Ideal Chipettes dolls
The Chipettes dolls were produced in 1984 by the American toy manufacturer Ideal. There were three dolls in the series, one for each of the Chipettes – Eleanor, Jeanette and Brittany.
Each doll featured a soft, plush body with hard plastic arms, legs and head. They were only manufactured for a short time, from 1984 until 1985.
How much are Chipettes dolls worth?
As they were only produced for a short period of time, the Ideal Chipettes dolls are relatively rare compared to many other dolls from the series. It can be difficult to find mint condition or NIB (New In Box) examples of all three dolls, and they are sought after by collectors.
None-boxed examples with their original outfits can sell for between $100 and $200 on sites such as eBay, depending on their condition. Boxed examples are even rarer, and can often fetch upwards of $200.
