Hollywood stars' autographs to auction in UK

Stars of the 1920s and 1930s will feature prominently at the auction of Hollywood autographs

A strong collection of autographs from cinema's leading stars of the 1920s and 1930s is coming to auction in the UK.

Amassed by Birmingham, UK woman Florrie Clark, the collection, which features both Hollywood and British actors and actresses, will auction on November 1.

Vivien Leigh is among the autographs on offer

The 1920s silent era is well represented, with Mary Pickford (1892-1979), whose twin beds recently sold for $16,274 at PFC Auctions, a standout item. Yet it is the signatures of stage actors and "talkies" stars that will likely attract the most interest, with Gone with the Wind's Vivien Leigh, Ivor Novello and John Gielgud all featuring, as well as Laurence Olivier, whose autograph we are also currently offering.

Clark obtained the majority of her autographs by writing to the leading studios, a practice that many autograph hunters today continue.

The auction house's fine arts manager, Adrian Rathbone, said: "The collection is a fitting tribute to Florrie's passion for collecting signatures and is an important and intriguing insight into the very early days of cinema.

"Some of the autographs are in small albums but most are on signed photographs of the stars themselves."

Here at Paul Fraser Collectibles we are well aware of the power of Hollywood autographs at auction. View our comprehensive collection here.
