Hitler's SS directory book to make $3,500 at Mullock's

Hitler's SS directory book, which details the most prominent Nazis, will auction in March

An SS directory book that once belonged to Adolf Hitler, and names some of the most prominent Nazis, is to be sold by Mullock's Auctions on March18 in the UK.

Hitler SS directory book Heinrich Himmler is listed in first place, as Reichsfuhrer of the Schutzstaffel

The directory details 30,000 members of the Schutzstaffel, with the feared Heinrich Himmler listed as number one. It is expected to sell for around 2,000 ($3,335).

Containing the names, division, party numbers, date of birth and promotion details of each member of the elite paramilitary group, the book was stolen by a British spy during the second world war.

The book could be the missing link for Third Reich researchers

"This book is extremely rare and the story of how it was stolen from under the noses of the Germans is also highly intriguing," commented Mullock's expert Richard Westwood-Brookes.

"It is very difficult to tell how well it will do at auction, but if you are a researcher of the Third Reich, which many people are, it is worth its weight in gold.

"It really wouldn't take much for a researcher to trace the people in the book, it could show the missing pieces to someone's puzzle."

There has been a spate of Nazi memorabilia sales recently, as a piece of sofa fabric reportedly stained with Hitler's blood sold for $16,000 in the US, while an archive of Nuremberg Trials items appeared at an auction house in Jerusalem.
