Heritage to boldy go into space collecting

You are now invited to consign memorabilia to their 2010 space exploration auction

Hot on the heels of Bonhams' announcement that it is to hold a second Space Sale auction following its successful July event, Heritage Auction Galleriesof Dallas, US also has another Space auction planned.

Interested parties are now invited to consign space related memorabilia for the 2010 April Grand Format Space Exploration Auction. Bonhams' sale will also be next year, timed to coincide with the notorious Apollo 13 mission.

Highlights at Heritage's last space sale included the personal Rolex watch worn by Apollo 17 astronaut Ron Evans,which sold for an incredible $131,450. The watch was on thelunar surface for 72 hours duringmankind's last ever manned Moon expedition, to-date.

In second place was Apollo 16's Lunar Module Flown Crewman Optical Alignment Sight (COAS), from the personal collection of mission commander John Young.

The COAS was a high-tech, long-range imaging device used to provide the commander with cues during space docking manoeuvres. It sold for an incredible $65,725.

A signed flown crew log book from Apollo 8, consigned by module pilot James Lovell andused throughout the 21-27 December, 1968 mission, also sold for an impressive $56,762.50.

Heritage's Consignment Directors will be visiting various areas in the US to weigh-up potential auction block items.
