Henry VIII Personal Divorce Plea Discovered

Paul Fraser Collectibles acquire Henry VIII's personal divorce plea.

Nov 16, 2010 - Paul Fraser Collectibles have acquired aletter from Henry VIII which represents his attempt to advance his plans to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon in order to marry Anne Boleyn.

Henry VIII set his hopes of an annulment upon an appeal to Pope Clement VII.

The Pope was at the time a prisoner of The Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Catherine's nephew.

Unable to make contact with The Pope, Henry VIII writes to Cardinal Benedetto de Accolti, the Bishop of Ravenna.

Henry sends a recommendation for his envoy Thomas Boleyn, Earl of Wiltshire (and curiously the father of Anne Boleyn) to be sent to represent him in discussions with Emperor Charles V.

Paul Fraser Collectibles are delighted to have been given the opportunity to offer this unique Royal document, dated January 18 1529 representing Henry VIII's personal attempt to annul his marriage. It is estimated to sell for 275,000.
