Henry Aldridge & Son - The Devizes Auctioneers is an auction house based in England’s South West. According to its website, the firm are “The Local Auctioneers with a Global Reputation” and “one of the South West’s premier auctioneers of antiques and collector’s items.”

Company history

Henry Aldridge & Son is a family run business operated by father and son team Alan and Andrew Aldridge.

They were described recently by the top collector of Ocean Liner Memorabilia world-wide as the “Leading source of high end ocean liner collectibles in the world” and are universally accepted as the premier auctioneers in the sale of Titanic and White Star Line Material.

Says their website, both Alan and Andrew aim to offer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at their auctions together with a 21st century attitude towards their clients and business.

Auction schedule

Henry Aldridge and Son hold dedicated Antiques and Collectors Auctions each month as well as two specialist Titanic and Ocean Liner sales in April and October. These Collectors and Antique sales have yielded some splendid lots in so far in the last twelve months.

Notable sales

Henry Aldridge and Son hold a number of world records for sale of items at auction.

The Stone Collection of Titanic Memorabilia

These include over £235,000 for the Stone Collection of Titanic Memorabilia in October 2008.

World Record RMS Titanic sale

Henry Aldridge and Son also hold the individual world record for a Titanic item sold at auction. This was for a 32ft longitudinal plan of the Titanic used during the inquiry into the disaster in 1912, which sold for £220,000 in 2011.

  • A collection of letters from Lawrence of Arabia which made £11000
  • a ships bell from the HMS Caledon £9000
  • A signed photograph from Emperor Hirohito that sold for over £3000.

Andrew Aldridge

Andrew Aldridge is a consultant to the firm and carries on the family tradition of working in antiques. He has an honours degree in fine arts valuation and is a full member of the Elite Fine Arts Division of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, having been one of the youngest members ever to gain full membership at the age of 26.

His specialist area of expertise is the valuation of Titanic and White Star Line Memorabilia, where he is thought of as one of the leading authorities in the World.

His other interests include militaria and medals more specifically British Campaign and Gallantry awards 1885-1945, current affairs and British history.
