Grieb & Benzinger looks set to finish 2010 withits Blue Sensation collectors watch, described by the company asits "personal highlight of the year".

The German workshop specialising in high-end collector's pieces has created the new unique piece in solid platinum, based on a historical Patek Philippe split-seconds chronograph movement.

Priced at 197,500 ($266,732) it is the heaviest platinum watch in the world, and as the classic watch market goes from strength to strength it looks sure to excite collectors and investors alike.

The unique Blue Sensation watch is on the market for $266,732

Requiring countless hours of detailed restoration, the rare chronograph movement made in 1889 by Patek Philippe and delivered in 1890 to Tiffany has been disassembled more than 20 times; before being reassembled in order to guarantee all functions.

Featuring a skeletonised dial with a rare Breguet frosted finish with overlapping displays in the characteristic style, the Blue Sensation shows the connoisseur the technical prowess needed to turn such a masterpiece into a regulator -a style for which the Grieb & Benzinger workshop is known.

It also allows a view of the blue platinum coated base plate, a signature element of their timepieces.
