Harley-Davidson signed by Captain America's movie cast rides into auction

Bike lovers and film buffs have the chance to buy an unusual piece of memorabilia, in an online sale

Captain America: The First Avenger has knocked Harry Potter off top spot in the US box office, and it looks as though collectibles associated with the film could follow suit.

A Harley-Davidson motorbike signed by the cast is currently on auction at eBay.

The 2011 Harley-Davidson V-Rod Muscle VRSCF has been signed by Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Neal McDonough as well as director Joe Johnston.

It could well be a collectible for film fans and bike lovers to cherish in years to come.

All proceeds from the auction, which ends on August 4, will be put towards the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust, of which Harley-Davidson is a strong supporter.

Harley-Davidson's director of Marketing Communications, Dino Bernacchi, commented: "We're excited about the potential of this unique auction to strengthen our relationship with the Disabled American Veterans and the work they do."

Captain America rides a 1942 Harley-Davidson Liberator in the film and the manufacturer collaborated with Marvel Studios to provide several world war two era motorbikes for the picture.

Harley-Davidson produced around 90,000 motorbikes for the war effort, some of which occasionally appear at auction, attracting huge interest.

A 1942 Harley Davidson WLA 45 sold for $7,150 at a Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach sale, earlier this year.

The three-speed manual transmission machine had undergone a number of custom changes, including the addition of "chopper" handlebars in the 1970s.

The film opens in the UK on Friday July 29.
