Harburg Collection competiton cars to sell through RM Auctions

RM Auctions will offer the Harburg Collection - some of the world's finest competition cars

On February 4-5, 2014, RM Auctions will offer the Harburg Collection, one of the world's finest collections of important competition cars.

Porsche 956 1982The Porsche 956 is one of two cars in the sale said to be'the greatest endurance racers ever made'

The sale will be held at RM Auctions' all-new Paris Auction, which is to take place during the world-famous Retromobile car show.

The collection belongs to Peter Harburg, a renowned Australian collector and race driver. It is highlighted by a fantastic selection of rare Porsche models, with "two of the greatest endurance racers ever made" expected to lead.

The first of these is the 1982 956 Group C Sports-Prototype, chassis 004, which was one of three works cars to complete the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans, driven by the Haywood/Holbert/Barth team. With the carfinishingthird overall, it marked a historic 1-2-3 finish for the team that year.

During the same season, chassis 004 achievedsecond place in the Spa 1000kms and appeared at Fuji and Kayalami. It continued to be the works entry for 1983 and 1984, andis now expected to sell in excess of $3m.

Chassis 005 was never raced, meaning that it is in fantastic original condition

This estimate is shared by the 917/30, a 5.4 litre car delivering 1,100 BHP that was designed especially to win the 1973 North American Can-Am series with Mark Donohue at the wheel.

Only six chassis were ever built in 1973, with only three completed for racing. Chassis 005 - the car on offer - is one of those that never graced the racetrack, but is nonetheless offered in original condition and sporting its Sunoco racing livery.

Outside of the spectacular Porsche line-up, the collection also offers important competition cars from other marques, including the Jaguar D-Type driven by Australian Bob Stillwell in the 1956-1957 seasons.

Also starring will be the 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza Spider, which competed in the fourth annual 12 Hours of Sebring.

Paul Fraser Collectibles is currently offering a fantastic selection of motor racing memorabilia for sale.
