Hambleden Manor furniture auction scheduled for July 10

Christie's London to auction furniture drawn from Hambleden Manor, including '$37,000' lacquer tables

Several items of furniture drawn from Buckinghamshire, UKstately home Hambleden Manor are to cross the auction block at Christie's London on July 10.

Estimates range from 300 ($445) for a number of bookcases, to 25,000 ($37,200) for a pair of 19th century Chinese black and gilt lacquer altar tables.

HambledenManor was decorated by English interior designers Colefax and Fowler during the 1950s; the sale represents a rare opportunity for collectors to purchase "a slice of decorating history," according to Homes & Property magazine.

"It is hard to exaggerate the influence of Colefax and Fowler on the English interior," the magazine asserts.

On July 23-24, another important stately home sale is scheduled to take place. The contents of historic Cornwall property Trelissick House are to go under the hammer in association with Bonhams.
