Halfway between art and a Pin Up... Guy Le Baube auctions in Paris

Critics say his works elevate cheeky pin ups to art status, and now collectors can judge for themselves

The worlds of pornography and erotic art will once again merge on the auction block at Cornette de Saint Cyr's upcoming Pin Up auction, to be heldin Paris on January 23.

Among the sale's titillating highlights are a number of artworks by Guy Le Baube. Among them is Readymade Swimmer, 2008, which pushes the pin up into the realm of art with a unique concept: bathing the model in packing foam.

According to Cornette de Saint Cyr's lot notes, Le Baube's idea is "halfway between sculpture and photography... making this photograph an object of art in itself." The 60 x 180 cm photograph is signed on the back and will appear in the sale estimated at 9,000-10,000.

Another by the artist: Reading, 1986

Also up for sale is a similar piece, ReadyMade French Navy, 2008 (also pictured) and a 106 x 132 cm limited edition 1986 photograph by the artist entitled Reading. The latter work is both signed and numbered and is expected to sell for 7,500-8,000.
