Great Victory of Cultural Revolution stamps highlights Interasia's sale

The auction has great highlights from both the Imperial and PRC section of Chinese philately

Here's another look at what promises to be a truly spectacular sale of rare Asian stamps this September at Interasia.

As we've reported previously, the company is following on from a sale in March which broke a number of records, notably the unique 1968 Mao's Inscription to Japanese Worker Friends corner block of four from the Cultural Revolution era which sold for HK$8,970,000 (US$1,151,630)

A complete catalogue is still to be released (indeed the company is still accepting consignments), but some impressive items have been confirmed already.

From Imperial China there is a range of Large Dragons with multiples and cancellations, Small Dragons, Dowagers and Dowager Surcharges replete with varieties.

The Red Revenue section includes a number of important items with Small Figures 2c. on 3c. half sheet of fifty showing sheet number, small 4c. on 3c. with surcharge double, $5 on 3c. horizontal pair with right sheet margin cancelled at Kiungchow, and a Remittance Certificate bearing two $5 on 3c.

Perhaps even more exciting is the People's Republic section, which includes a complete collection of unmounted mint blocks of four of the C and S series, a very fine used example of the 1958 Students Congress 22f. error with wrong inscription, and a magnificent example of the iconic 1953 Military Post unissued Navy $800 blue.

The ever popular Cultural Revolution issues include the 1968 "Whole Country is Red" and the 1968 "Great Victory of Cultural Revolution" 8f. in an exceedingly rare and pristine marginal block of four.

There is an extensive array of miniature sheets and later issues including the 1980 Year of the Monkey 8f. in a complete sheet of 80.

Interasia's auction takes place on September 24-25 in Hong Kong.
